Life Cycle Analysis; Part 1

The product I chose to do my LCA on is string for a tennis racket, more specifically the ISOSPEED- Baseline string. The material used in producing this string is Polyester which is a category of polymers. The type of polyester used to make these strings is polyethylene terephthalate also known as PET polyester. This type of Polyester is also commonly used in plastic bottles. It is an artificial polyester made through the process of Step-Growth polymerization. PET takes fairly long to biodegrade, under perfect conditions it can take anywhere from 5 to 10 years. However PET is commonly recycled and the polyester tennis strings can be recycled in the plastic section of recycle bins.

Sustainability Issues; Deforestation

Deforestation is defined as the destruction of forested land. It has been causing some severe geological problems such as erosion which have led to landslides and also been the cause of an increased number of floodings as the woods are not longer able absorb the amounts of rain water and keep the water levels of the rivers stable.
